Asociación Ibiza Ecologic
From the time of the first global environmental movement, there are more people around the world creating local groups that are dedicated to the study and conservation of our natural environment.
Here in Ibiza, this small but famous little island in the Mediterranean, the environmental movement has evolved slowly.
Around the 80's was when the boom in tourism and uncontrolled building began on the island. Some residents realized the negative effect on the natural environment and decided to take the first steps to stop the destruction.
At first he created the group Ibizan study of nature, 'GEN', followed in 1989 by a local group of the organization "Friends of the Earth." Then came the study group 'Ibiza Ecologic', founded in 1996 and the model ecological center 'La Casita Verde. " By the way, members of 'Gen' and 'Friends of the Earth' formed the first environmental political party, "Els Verds', which had a very good result in the local elections in 1995. However, due to internal differences, one of the party members left and founded another Green Party called 'Green Group'. Although 'Els Verds' were represented in the 1999 elections as part of the new coalition government, the action of splitting the green vote appeared to weaken the public on environmental political groups, and neither party won enough votes to be re-elected in subsequent elections of 2003.
In 2001, the study group 'Ibiza Ecologic' created a symbol for environmental awareness that has become very popular: a green heart with a yellow border. This emblem quickly became the most popular car sticker in Ibiza and has now begun to spread throughout the world as a symbol of love and respect for the planet Earth, playing the 'green heart' of many people
who are awakening to this awareness. Meanwhile, here in Ibiza, the combination of bulldozers that continue to transform the island into a wide range of real estate and the urgent issues associated with global warming threaten and create new environmental catastrophes. Luckily there is a new opportunity to reverse this destructive trend. Many young people are deciding that it is 'Time to change' and start looking for ways to improve their own environmental impact, helping to create a more sustainable future for themselves and those who come back!
