Casita Verde

Casita Verde

Located in a beautiful valley near the village of San Jose in Ibiza, La Casita Verde is a model ecological center operated by volunteers and open to the public every Sunday. Here you can directly observe and find that a more sustainable lifestyle is within reach of every one of us.
Some unique features of the Casita Verde are:

Building materials made from recycled bottles, cans, aluminum and wood
Alternative living spaces like a house on a tree, a bottle house and a house in a lime kiln
Daily use of alternative energies such as solar and wind
Resource Conservation in Action
Recycling and composting
Cultivation of medicinal plants and herbs

Why?
La Casita Verde exists as an educational tool to demonstrate alternative techniques of life forms.

How?
La Casita Verde works with the work of its coordinator, Chris Dews and a team of volunteers. The center is self-sufficient thanks to donations received during the weekly activities and events held there.
Volunteers from around the world come to La Casita Verde. Since its founding in 1993, La Casita Verde has received more than one hundred volunteers from twenty different countries. Each fall, they also receive exchange students from Earth University in Costa Rica.
Volunteers work in exchange for food and lodging. Some current projects include:

Maintain and improve facilities
Building a system for collecting rainwater with more capacity
Installation of more alternative energy systems
Develop workshops on healthy cooking, organic gardening, recycling, self-healing, natural medicines and traditional ecological knowledge
Producing music for the compilation of the Green Heart Music
Develop a series of products based on local materials such as recipes, musical instruments, jewelry and art.
