Flora y fauna

There are 12 main areas included in the Natural Areas Law (LEN) 1991. Flora and fauna can be found In all these areas (classified as Natural Area of Special Interest, ISNA, quoted by LEN) of the Mediterranean. The Aleppo pine (Pinus halpensis) and juniper (Juniperus phoenicea) are the most common trees, forming an important and significant biotype island, especially in Ibiza, where 40% of the territory is covered with forests of pines and junipers.

Although there are not many large mammals, we can find the genet (Genetta Genetta isabelae) as well as a variety of birds and, especially, endemic species of lizards are a real treasure.

One of the most important ecosystems in the Mediterranean are the meadows of Posidonia oceanica, and the wide diversity of marine life.
In addition, the Posidonia plays a major role in the conservation of coastal ecosystem, considered as a key indicator in determining the ecological quality of the environment it inhabits.

Among the marine fauna of the multicolored Pitusa, maids can be found (related to fish from tropical coral reefs), sea anemones, flocks of golden, salps and fish fry ... Deeper monk is a different landscape: corals, barracuda, mackerel, eels, anti, tuna, bream and perch and even. Occasionally on the surface you can see dolphins, flying fish, and sea turtles Caretta caretta type (loggerhead).

Other life forms present on the islands are: beaches, dunes, wetlands, Salinas, the coast and the islands surrounding the coastline Ibiza.
